BIOGRAPHY:
Kelly Coyle, 24, from Naperville, Ill., entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2007 as a student of Donald Montanaro, retired Associate Principal clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. All students at Curtis receive merit-based full-tuition scholarships, and Ms. Coyle is the Nellie Lee Bok Fellow. Prior to entering Curtis, Ms. Coyle was a member of the Dean's list and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars at Northern Illinois University, where she studied with Melvin Warner and Gregory Barrett. She performed as a soloist with the Northern Illinois University Wind Ensemble in 2007.
She was a featured player in Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique under Christoph Eschenbach and Mussorgsky’s Pictures from an Exhibition under Peter Oundjan during the 2008–09 Curtis season. Through Curtis, she has also worked with world-reknowned conductors such as Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Simon Rattle, Robert Spano, and Michael Tilson Thomas. Ms. Coyle has been seen at Carnegie, Disney, and Verizon Halls, in addition to her native Chicago Symphony Center. Ms. Coyle is a substitute for the New World Symphony. Post Concerto Competition. She has participated in master classes with Yehuda Gilad, Richie Hawley, Ricardo Morales, Eugene Mondie, Ricardo Morales, and Michael Rusinek.
Ms. Coyle earned a certificate in Arts in Healthcare from Temple University and holds an internship with the Philadelphia Orchestra Teaching Artists. She has been positively reviewed there by the Philadelphia Inquirer, that described her as being "smooth as silk, even more so than one often hears in a professional orchestra." Ms. Coyle has recently been invited by the Curtis Institute as one of two students to cooperate with internationally acclaimed pianist Ignat Solzhenitsyn in a national tour during the spring of 2011 as a part of Curtis on Tour. Kelly Coyle began piano at age five, voice at six, and clarinet at seven.
